About Cartridge Compass

Cartridge Compass is an independent, browser-local preflight for authorized IMS Common Cartridge packages.

What it does

The tool applies conservative ZIP safety checks, reads imsmanifest.xml, builds an inventory of organizations, items, resources, and files, and reports structural errors, compatibility warnings, and informational details. A built-in sample lets visitors understand the report before selecting their own package.

Why it is local

Selected IMSCC bytes are read in the browser. They are not sent to the event endpoint or stored by Cartridge Compass. A locally downloaded JSON report can contain the selected file name and manifest paths, so the person downloading it should review it before sharing it.

Where it stops

Cartridge Compass does not log into an LMS, fetch external course dependencies, validate LTI credentials, repair a cartridge, certify standards conformance, or guarantee that a target LMS will import or render a package. Always test in a sandbox for the exact destination platform and version.

Cartridge Compass is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by 1EdTech, an LMS vendor, or another standards body. Product and standards names belong to their respective owners.
